Day 5: Beihai Park (北海公园)
Destinations: Beihai Park (北海公园)
Our trip to China was rapidly coming to a close as we approached day 5 of our trip. We left early morning to Beihai parks in the hopes of beating the heat but it was already pretty hot when we got there.
Behai Park (北海公园)
Since the boat ride we had yesterday was so nice, we decided to rent out a boat for an hour and just relax on the lake.
It was so nice we almost fell asleep! But be careful when you’re operating these boats because a lot of parents let their kids drive. They’re relatively harmless since the boat really doesn’t go that fast, but it does get annoying and a little bit scary because some of the kids seem to think the boats are bumper cars.
Our hour was up so we went back to the shore where we rented the boat and we started to walk around the park. We came upon the White Pagoda and I
very reluctantly climbed up towards the Pagoda. I have a deathly fear of coming down stairs–especially steep staircases but I figured since I traveled all the way across the ocean, I might as well.
The White Pagoda is on top of Jade Islet and is a famous landmark in China. It’s not too bad of a climb and you will see why because there are scarier staircases in China. I think China has Europe beaten in terms of terrifying staircases.
We were pretty exhausted at this point so we decided to go back and relax with some afternoon tea.
